Bio: Vaan is a very easy going, positive young man who lives in the Royal City of Rabanastre which is now under the command of the Archadian Empire. During the battles with the Empire, five years before the game, he lost both his parents and was left with his only brother. From that tragic event, he dreamt of commanding his one airship as a sky pirate to escape the Archadian Empire. He later joins the Resistance in hope to free Dalmasca from its oppression.
Vaan was orphaned at the age of twelve when both his parents suffered from a terrible plague. Three years after his parent’s death, his older brother, Reks, was supposedly murdered by his commanding officer, Basch, in the Archadian Invasion of Dalmasca. From that time to the beginning of the game, Vaan made of living as Migelo’s assistant.
During the beginning of the game, he still feels resentful of his brother’s death and blames everything on the Archadian Empire.
His role is the game is somewhat little but it’s good for a point of view for some of the events passing in the game.

Bio: Ashe is the heir to the royal throne of Dalmasca and the only daughter of the late King Raminas B'nargin Dalmasca, who was killed in the Archadian Invasion of Dalmasca along with her eight brothers. After Dalmasca was conquered, she was announced dead but secretly joined the Resistance in hope to free the Dalmasca from its oppression and to have revenge on the Archadian Empire.
At the beginning of the game, or the opening sequence of the game, Ashe was married to Prince Rasler Heios Nabradia. It is still unknown if their marriage was intended to unite to kingdoms or they were actually in love. Sadly enough, the prince died in battle and Ashe was widowed. It was then announced that she committed suicide because of her late husband’s death, which was misunderstood.
Much can be said about Ashe past but little is revealed at the beginning of the game. Thought she does play a huge part in the game as King Raithwall’s descendent. With that, she hopes to use the Dawn Shard, a type of Nethicite that is very dangerous, to fight for her kingdom’s freedom. It still isn’t clear if she actually succeeds in her actions to free her country. But more will be revealed.

Bio: Fran is part of the Viera race, which are rabbit like in appearance but are very skilled in battle. She and Balthier have a past history in sky pirating and are equal partners. Fifty years prior to the game, Fran left her village and disobeyed the laws of the Wood. Now she is no longer one of the Wood Wielders and is cast aside by her people. She has two sisters, her younger sister Mjrn and her older sister Jote, who is the leader of the village.
In battle, Fran can basically use any weapon and master it quickly. Though, she is more accustomed to the bow and arrow. In the whole main cast of characters, she is the only one that is not a Hume.
Fran first joins the party when they are fleeing from the Royal Palace in Rabanastre. She is in the same party as Balthier.

Bio: Balthier is a sky pirate who commands a small airship, the Strahl, and goes around Ivalice looking for valuables. With him on his adventures is his trusty partner Fran, who he has a past history with. He is the son of Dr. Cid. Though their relationship isn’t that strong since his bother had a obsession with his research about Nethicite. His obsession was so great that he almost forced Balthier into becoming a Judge. Before that, Cid was tainted by Venas with the help of Vayne Solidor.
Many times during the game, Balthier claims that he is the main character of the whole story. With that, he thinks that he is invincible with the saying, “the hero never dies.” After stating his immortality, he has a near death incident when the Sky Fortress Bahamut is destroyed. With his death known, Ashe later receives a letter from the sky pirate proving he is a live and well.
Balthier shares the same last name of Mustadio Bunanza who appears in Final Fantasy Tactics. Though, we don’t know if they have any relation at all.
Balthier is first introduced when Vaan is in the Royal Palace looking for treasures. He is looking for what Vaan stole and insists that he gives it to him. For that, he is stuck with the boy for the rest of the game. He stays in the party to see how the story unfolds.

Bio: Penelo is a 16 year-old hume girl who is close friends with Vaan, she also loves to dance and sing and works at the Bazaar. Penelo lost her parents long ago in the war. Penelo was taught by her elder brother (she apparenly had several), a member of the order of knights, who might possibly be deceased as well. She has a close relationship with Vaan.
Penelo is a Hume orphan who works as a dancer in a Rabanastre bazaar. She learned martial arts from her now-deceased older brother, a soldier, and though small in stature, she is perfectly capable of handling herself in sticky situations. She has known Vaan since childhood, and seems to secretly have romantic feelings towards him. Her parents, having took him in to care for him after his own parents died, encouraged Penelo and sort of put the two together, as a result they care about each other a lot. It is unclear if this relationship will go any further, but the ending of the game does heavily imply a possible romance between the two in the future since they intend to travel together as sky pirates. It is apparent that she is the main dedicated magic user in the game, and she seems to be better at using Summon magic than any of the other characters. She prefers to use either a bow & arrow or a magical staff.

Bio: Basch was a former general who served in the Dalmascan army. During the Archadian invasion on the Royal City, he soon found out that their beloved king had sold their empire to the Archadians. When the news reached his ears, he was enrage and killed both the king and Vaan’s older brother Reks, who was the only witness of the crime. After the news reached the people, Basch was entitled a traitor by the people of Dalmasca.
During the game, Basch explains what truly happens the night of the invasion. True be told, that his twin brother was the murderer and now has become one of the Archadian Judges. Because of his brother death’s, Basch eagerly takes over his brother’s place as an Archadian Judge and the protector of Lord Larsa
Basch joins the party when Vaan and co. are trying to escape from Nabreus Deadlands. They break his cage and set him free from his dreaded prison. He stays in the party in hope to restore peace in the kingdom he couldn’t protect

Bio: Larsa is the youngest of four sons of Emperor Gramis. He is also the younger brother of Vayne Solidor. Since two of his older brothers are dead, he and Vayne are competing for their father’s place as Emperor, though Larsa has a better chance of gaining that title. He believes that peace between the two empires can be solved by talking and not war.
He first makes an appearance when the party is heading to the Lhusu Mines. At that time, he gives the name ‘Lamont’ in order to keep his true identity hidden. He joins the party as a guest. Larsa does play a big part in the game and is often a guest in your party.
Name: Vayne Carudas Solidor

Bio: Vayne is one of the four sons of Emperor Gramis and is one of the two competitors for his throne. Eleven years ago, his father ordered him to kill two of his brothers, who were accused of being traitors. The true story was hidden by the two brother’s dieing in battle.
Vayne holds a very important position as authority. He may not abuse his powers but some may think he does. He tried very hard to have a positive relationship with the Dalmascans and declares that they are more important than anything.
In the game, Vayne is portrayed as the main villain. He wants to become the new Tyrant King and will do anything to get that title. Until the end, he kept searching for the power of the rogue Oquelia Venas.
His thirst for power grows and comes to a point where he assassinates his own father. In order to keep his name clear, he blames the action on the Senate. With his father out of the way, he can gain the full power of being emperor.
In the game, Vayne is the final boss and has to be fought three times. The first time you fight him, he is one his own without a weapon. The second time is with the power of Artificial Nethicite with a magic sword. The last time you fight him, he has the power of Venas.
Just the beginning of the game, Vayne is introduced as a guest in Rabanastre. The whole city is preparing for his arrival. Vaan feels different about the occasion that most.

Bio: Gabranth is leader of the Judges and also in the Judge on the game logo. It is reveiled in the game that he is, in fact, Basch’s twin brother and the true murderer of Reks and King Raminas. He is quite the opposite to his brother. He supports the Archadian Empire with his life. He is Larsa’ protector and Vayne’s second in command. In his actions, he shows that he hates himself for framing his brother and doing the tasks that Vayne commands him to fulfill.
At the end of the game when your party confronts him, he insists on joining the team and defeating Vayne to make up for his actions in the past. Sadly, during the battle he is wounded and dies in his brother’s arms.

Bio: Ghis is one of the first Judges that you encounter in the game. It is his right to guard and supervise Larsa. You first meet him on the Dreadnought Leviathan. Upon escaping you have to fight him along with four Imperial Guards.
Later on, you meet up with him again but this time you don’t fight him. He dies within the airship as it is being blown up from the over heating Nethicite called the Dawn Shard.

Bio: Drace is the only female Judge in the entire game. She is one of Larsa’s guardians. She also is his personal adviser and it’s her responsibility for his education and upbringing. She sets the role as the mother he never had. When she finds out about the Emperor being poisoned, she blames the action and Vayne and attempts to arrest him. Her actions are stopped and then killed at Vayne’s command by Gabranth.

Bio: Zargabaath is mentioned a lot during the beginning of the game but it not seen until half way through. He is a master military man and obeys the commands of both the Emperor and the Empire. He is in command of the Alexander that was given to him by Vayne. Whenthe airship Bahamut is colliding with Rabanastre, Zargabaath prepares to do a suicide attack with the Alexander to protect the royal city. With the help of Balthier’s actions, he attack was not necessary. He is the only Judge in the entire game that doesn’t die.

Bio: Bergan is the most oppressive of all the Judges in his speech and in his actions. It is shown in many of the cutscenes when he is talking to the other Judges. He only answers to Lord Vayne and is a honest supporter of turning Dalmasca into a military repression under the Archadian rule. He also dies by the hand of the main party.

Bio: Reks is the first character that you place as during the battle tutorials. He is the older brother of Vaan and was the only family member he had at the time. He was killed during the invasion of Dalmasca two years before the game. He was seventeen at the time.

Bio: Rasler is the prince of the state of Nabradia who married Ashe in the opening sequence of the game. It was not long after that the invasion began. During a battle conference, he hears his father was kills and runs off into battle. Sadly, being blinded by rage, he was shot with an arrow above the heart and slowly died. Numerous times during the game, he appears to Ashe as a ghost.

Bio: He is Ashe’s Uncle and only known living relative. He is also the narrator for at the beginning of the game. He is the ruler of the Skycity of Bhujerba. It is said that he is some how has relations with the Dalmascan rebels Kelly and Laura thought he tries to have an Archadian rule.

Bio: Vossler was a general and partner to Basch in the invasion two years before the game begins. He has always been loyal to Dalmasca and kept Ashe out of harm’s way during her hiding. He has a rather short fuse and he isn’t very compassionate towards others. It character is revealed at the beginning of the game when he tells Basch to leave Reks behind.
Vossler joins as a guest in the beginning of the game when the party heads to Kin Raithwall’s tomb. He later betrays Ashe and Basch for the Empire. He believes Dalmasca’s freedom cannot be stolen. Soon after, the party must fight him in the Dreadnought Leviathan and dies.

Bio: Cidolfus is an Archadian scientist that has wrapped his studies around Nethicite. He is Balthier’s father and creator of many of the airships that are featured in the game. He searches for the pieces of the Sun-Cryst. These pieces will help him manufacture Artificial Nethicite. During his research he was tainted by Venas. Cid dies when Ashe destroys the Sun-Cryst. With the destruction of the Sun-Cryst, Cid died along with the Bahamut.

Bio: Nono is one of the mechanics on Balthier’s airship, the Strahl. He is the brother on Montblanc. He also made an appearance in FFTA, but it is still unclear if they are the same moogle.

Bio: She is the younger sister of both Fran and Jote. When the party first comes to the village, they find out she left the village looking for something. In fact, she left the village to know why Humes were coming to the area. She followed them to the Henne Mines where the mist from the Nethicite affected her judgment. She was possessed but soon rescued by her sister.

Bio: She is the leader of the Viera who live in Eruyt Village. She is also the older sister of both Fran and Mjrn. During her conversations with Fran, it seems that she still has hatred towards her for leaving the village fifty years ago.
Name: King Raithwall, the Dynast-King
Race: Hume
Bio: King Raithwall concquered many lands with the help of three shards on the Sun-Cryst. He used their power to rule over the land. Being a Hume, he died but was always remembered as the Dynast-King.
The lands were divided into the amount of shards the king owned and they were given to each land. The Dawn Shard was hidden in The Tomb of Raithwall, the Dusk Shard was owned by Dalmasca and the Midlight Shard was owned by Nabudia.
Ashe is one of his descendants.
