Gambit System
The Gambit System is a new and important part to the battle system that is introduce in the game. This system allows you to give commands to a character that will repeat in any battle. Each gambit tells the character what to do once that situation comes into play. It is kind of an AI system that is controlled by the user. This system is very useful when traveling through the game but it can be tricky to get the perfect set of gambits.
Gambit Building
A gambit is easily separated into two parts; a condition and a reaction. So inside or outside a battle, the character is given a condition and it will react in whatever way you set it to react. The gambit conditions are separated into allies, foes or self. Then the reactions are separated into magicks, technicks and items. At the beginning of them game, each character is given a simple gambit set up with limitations, though when you progress through the game, your conditions and reactions grow.
For example, “Attack” is the basic reaction for any basic condition in the foes section. This gambit can paired up with a condition like “Foe: nearest visible”. This means, the character will attack any foe that is the nearest and also visible. This is at the beginning of the game, later on the condition become more precise. For example, a character will cast Dispel whenever the “Foe: status = Protect” condition comes into play or cast Poisona whenever the “Ally: status = Poison” condition comes into play.
Disabling Gambits
Gambits may be very useful when fighting normal battles but they can cause a lot of damage when used in a hard boss battle. It would be best to keep it simple with basic healing and attacking and then do all the commands manually. This means you have completely control over your characters and they won’t do anything until you tell them too. This could be very useful at times but then your characters are vulnerable to attacks. So try to keep your character busy with useful attacks.
Helpful Gambits
It is always important to think about each character and what they can do when you are making your gambits. Each character is different and their gambits should be different too. It is always important to update your gambits when you reach to a new area. You should also check your gambits before entering a major battle because one wrong gambit could cost you to loose victory.
Each gambit set up it set up different from user to user. It all depends how the user thinks and reacts to things. Some would prefer to set a gambit for automatically healing a fallen member or they would manually do it themselves once it happens. Also, some users would have one character only using healing gambits and another with magick gambits and another with fighting gambits. This is great up until a certain point. Near the end of the game it best to have each character heal themselves. It faster and the healer won’t run out of MP which can cause a lot of problems in battles.
